Seamless underwear swaps stitched elastic edges for laser-cut or bonded ones, so the edge lies flat against your skin and doesn't show through a fitted dress. A thong is the most invisible under bodycon and satin, while a seamless brief or hipster works under most knits and midis.

Every product on this page is an Amazon listing, and everything said about it comes from the listing information: style, edge finish, fabric, shades offered and size range. Words like "no-show" and "invisible" are the listings' own claims. LookerDress hasn't tried on, worn or washed any of these. Underwear sizing differs between brands, so check each size chart before you order.

Buying considerations
Seamless underwear swaps stitched elastic edges for laser-cut or bonded ones, so the edge lies flat against your skin and is far less likely to show through a fitted dress. Under bodycon and satin, a seamless thong leaves the fewest lines; under most knits and midis, a seamless brief or hipster does the job.
The sections that follow cover what makes underwear seamless, how it differs from "no-show", which style goes with which dress, how to hide panty lines, and how to choose a shade.
What makes underwear seamless
Seamless panties are built so there's no raised seam or elastic band at the leg and waist. There are three main ways to do that:
Laser-cut edges. The fabric is cut cleanly with a laser and left raw. Stretchy microfiber doesn't fray, so the edge stays flat.
Bonded edges. A thin strip is glued or heat-bonded to the edge instead of being sewn, which gives a little more grip than a raw cut.
Knitted in one piece. The garment is knitted on a circular machine as a tube, with few or no side seams. The texture is often ribbed or slightly thicker.
Most seamless underwear is a nylon or polyester blend with spandex, because those fibers hold a clean edge. Many have a cotton gusset. For how those fabrics compare for daily wear, see our guide to the best fabrics for underwear.
Seamless vs no-show underwear
No-show underwear and seamless underwear are mostly the same idea. "Seamless" describes how it's made; "no-show" is a sales term for edges that don't print through clothes. A pair can be called both, and many listings use the words interchangeably.
The difference to watch for is the waistband. Some "no-show" styles have a laser-cut leg but a sewn elastic waist, which can still leave a line under a thin, fitted dress. If the waist matters, check that the listing describes the waistband as bonded or laser-cut too.
Texture is the other thing to look for. A smooth microfiber pair disappears under satin and jersey, while a ribbed, knitted-in-one pair can show its texture through very thin fabric even with no edges at all. Save ribbed seamless styles for thicker knits, denim and everyday clothes.
Which style for which dress
Pick the cut by how closely the dress follows your body. A quick guide:
Bodycon and satin slip dresses: a seamless thong. Thin, clingy fabrics show every edge, and a seamless thong leaves the least fabric to show. Look for a bonded waistband as well as a bonded back.
Knit midis and sweater dresses: a laser-cut brief. Thicker knits hide more, and a full brief gives coverage without a visible line at the hip.
A-line and fit and flare dresses: a no-show hipster. The skirt doesn't touch your hips, so any flat-edged hipster works, and the lower rise suits most waistlines.
Short skirts and dancing: seamless boyshorts. More coverage for spins and windy days, with a flat leg edge that doesn't dig into your thigh.
Corset dresses and structured bodices: a high-rise seamless brief. It stays under the bodice line; our guide to corset dresses covers what else goes underneath.
Seamless thongs
A seamless thong is the most useful single piece for fitted dresses. Bonded edges at the waist and a narrow back make it disappear under most clingy fabrics. If you don't like thongs, a cheeky cut with a laser-cut leg is the next-best option.
Laser-cut briefs
A laser-cut brief gives full coverage with no leg line, which suits knit dresses, work sheaths and anything you'll sit in all day. Multipacks are common, which makes it easy to keep a few in the drawer. A mid-rise or high-rise brief also stays put better under a dress with a defined waist.
No-show hipsters and boyshorts
Hipsters sit lower than briefs and suit fuller skirts. Boyshorts cover more of the upper thigh and suit short dresses. If you need more than that, like a layer so your thighs don't rub, anti-chafing shorts are built for it.
How to hide panty lines
How to hide panty lines comes down to fit, cut and the dress fabric.
Get the size right. Edges that dig in create a line however they're finished. If a pair cuts into your hip, try the next size.
Match the rise to the dress. A low-rise pair under a high-waisted bodycon dress leaves a line across your stomach. A higher rise moves the waistband under the dress's own seam.
Look in side light. A mirror facing a window shows lines that overhead lighting hides. Check before you leave.
Add a layer under thin fabrics. A slip smooths everything under satin and jersey. A half slip works under skirts, a full slip under a whole dress.
Go smoother if you want shaping. For a firmer, smoothed line under a fitted dress, tummy control shapewear does a different job from seamless briefs.
Matching your skin tone
The color that disappears under a light or white dress is the one closest to your skin, not white. White underwear shows through pale fabrics as a bright patch; a shade close to your skin tone blends in.
Many seamless multipacks come in several nude shades, from pale beige to deep brown. Choose by the listing's shade names and photos, and if you're between two, the slightly deeper one tends to blend better under white. Under black or dark dresses, black underwear is the safe choice.
Sheer and lace dresses are a different case. If the dress is meant to show a little of what's underneath, a matching slip or a deliberate bodysuit looks intended; a nude seamless brief can look like bare skin through lace, which may or may not be the look you want. Hold the dress up against your underwear in daylight before deciding.
Seamless edges have no elastic to hold them in place, so they rely on the fit. Too small and the raw edges roll or dig in, which brings back the very lines you were avoiding. Too large and they shift as you walk.
Follow the brand's size chart by hip and waist measurement, and don't size down for a tighter look. If you're between sizes, the larger size usually lies flatter. Once you find a brand and size that sit flat, note them down: sizing differs enough between brands that reordering the same pair is the surest way to get that fit again.
Is seamless underwear comfortable for all day?
Many people find it comfortable, since there's no elastic pressing at the leg. Comfort depends on the fabric and the fit, so pick the right size and a fabric you like against your skin.
Does seamless underwear really not show?
Under most fabrics, in the right size, the edges are hard to spot. Very thin satin or tight jersey can still show a faint edge, so check in side light and add a slip if needed.
What color underwear is invisible under a white dress?
A shade close to your skin tone, not white. White underwear tends to show through pale fabrics.
Can you wash seamless underwear in a machine?
Follow the care label. Many pairs can be machine washed on a gentle cycle; a mesh laundry bag helps keep raw edges flat.

An inverted triangle body shape means your shoulders or bust are wider than your hips, often with a straighter waist. Dresses that keep the shoulders simple, open the neckline with a V and add volume or detail below the waist suit this shape best.
